Calvert Methodist Church was named after the Rev. James Calvert and it has seen many changes since its
inaugeration in 1881. The original tin church that stood on the site lasted till 1890, when it was replaced by the current
premises. It has since seen 3 major renovations the first in 1953, when the church was divided and a new largehall formed.
The next marked the 100th anniversary in 1981 and more recently in 2003 - 2004 when work was undertaken to replace the pews
with chairs, redo the church sanctuary floor, replace many tired and worn carpets, install new lighting and update to meet
current fire safety standards. Also work was undertaken to allow better facilities for disabled visitors. The chairs were
then updated again a few years ago as it was decided better ones were needed (See pic. on front page).
